The Oak Forest
The oak forest on the north side of Jomfruland is very scenic. Some parts of the forest are rough and untended with thick undergrowth and a diversity of broad-leaved deciduous trees, while other parts are more open, tended and well-grazed with oak only. Pure stands of hazel can also be seen. The flora is rich and fascinating, especially during early spring when Blue Anemone and Wood Anemone are blossoming. The area provides lots of singing birds in spring, and the Oak Forest is the most reliable locality in Norway for Golden Oriole Oriolus oriolus. The best period for Orioles is the first half of June.
The majority of the forest is included in a landscape protecion area. Picking flowers is thus not allowed. We recommend that you stick to the many paths criscrossing the area.
